The Backstreet Boys have officially signed on for a Las Vegas residency, they announced on Friday.

The pop group confirmed reports that they will begin a concert residency next year at Planet Hollywood.

Kevin Richardson said in a statement: 'Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life' will feature members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson.

'We're going to call the show Larger Than Life, and we're taking that theme and we're going to run with it.'

Brian Littrell said the show, which has been initially scheduled to run from March to July, will be like a typical Backstreet Boys concert 'on steroids.'

The group's first performance will be March 1 and tickets go on sale Oct. 1.

The show will be held in the same theater where Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez perform their Vegas residencies.

The news comes five months after Nick Carter revealed that they had inked a deal for a nine show 'trial run' with Live Nation.

'If it does really well, then I think that'll open that door and then in future we'll do it,' the 36-year-old told Entertainment Tonight. '

'So that's definitely going to happen but we're going to do a trial run first.'

No doubt their fans are hoping that their biggest hits will all feature in the concert.

The Backstreet Boys formed in 1993 and are best known for songs including I Want It That Way, As Long as You Love Me and Everybody (Backstreet's Back).

They released their debut self-titled album in 1996 and went on to release eight further albums, including Millennium which is certified 13 times Platinum.

More recently, the band came together and released In A World Like This in 2013.

And earlier this year, AJ and Howie joined Nick to star in his Syfy zombie movie Dead 7 along with members of 'N Sync and O-Town.
